RMD Kwikform nominated for BCIA Awards on Carillion’s Crossrail Project

Aldridge based RMD Kwikform, a specialist equipment provider to the international construction market, has been shortlisted as a finalist in the prestigious British Construction Industry Awards (BCIA) for its innovative engineering solution on a £49 million Crossrail development.

Shortlisted under the Temporary Works category, RMD Kwikform collaborated with Carillion, the main contractor for the project, and one of the UK’s largest construction and integrated support services company, to create a special traveller system to support Crossrail’s Stockley Viaduct Flyover.

As part of Crossrail’s infrastructure development plan, which will see a 100km trainline constructed from the West to the East of the capital, the project saw a new bridge and airport junction constructed near Heathrow Airport.

Mike Follett, Managing Director of RMD Kwikform UK, said: “The BCI Awards is a prestigious event for the construction industry and we’re incredibly proud to be a finalist in the temporary works category. I’m particularly pleased that the Stockley Viaduct Flyover has been recognised as a potential winning project, as it highlights the ingenuity of our engineers and Carillion’s site team. It has also highlighted the importance of early supply chain engagement, and just how crucial collaborative working is in today’s construction and infrastructure market.

“Due to the complexities of the project, RMD Kwikform worked with Carillion to create a special traveller system that allowed the site team to work safely, whilst four live train lines ran parallel to the site. The flyover, which is now in use, has alleviated congestion and dramatically decreased journey times within the region, due to greater capacity allowance along the train lines.”

The 28th annual BCI Awards is an important event in the construction calendar, with all winners to be announced on 14th October 2015. The BCI Awards provides companies with a platform to showcase their products and innovations, whilst ensuring recognition across the entire industry.
