UTAS NRAS Commercial High Rise Project in Hobart – using RMD’s Alshor Plus, Airodek, Megashor and Super Slim Soldiers.
This commercial high rise project has 2 stages. Stage 1 involves the construction of a Car park with 4 levels and stage 2 consists of the construction of four accommodation towers. Fairbrother Pty Ltd, our client, provided UTAS with a detailed construction package, which included an alternative construction method and savings based on the methods proposed. The carpark will be done in 2 stages, the second stage at the end of the project allows for site access during the construction of the first stage of the car park and then the stage 2 towers.
Airodek has composite face to which provides a superior finish
RMD Hobart supplied a proposal to use RMD’s Airodek soffit system to enhance the speed of the construction of the project. Also RMD’s Airodek now has a plastic composite face to provide a superior finish, well beyond normal plywood panel face. Also the durability of the composite provides a significantly extended life compared to plywood. RMD Hobart’s proposal was successful and they are currently providing excellent support to Fairbrother to ensure the project is highly successful.
Alshor Plus Legs have been used as back props
Stage 1 involves the supply of approximately 3,500m2 of Airodek which will be cycled. Also the Alshor Plus shoring system will provide support to the band beams and edge supports. Also Alshor Plus Legs have been used as back props to release other equipment for use elsewhere whilst the slab concrete cures.
Panels cantilevered over the edge removes the need for support from the ground
Alshor Plus with Deck Beams and panels cantilevered over the edge removes the need for support from the ground and allows for safe access to the slab edge. This was a vital element when finding commercial solutions for Fairbrother Pty Ltd.
Stage 2 will require the supply of approximately 4,000m2 of Airodek soffit system and Alshor Plus shoring support to construct the four accommodation towers.
Similar access support will be used throughout the project
Heavy-duty Megashor shoring is being used in conjunction with Super Slim Soldiers, Alshor Plus and Alform Beams to support the sites access area. Using 7.2m long Megashor legs, it kept a clear span of approximately 5.5m. Alshor Plus and Super Slim Soldiers were utilised to support the Megashor, and Alform beams as joists. This type of support will also be used to provide access for the construction of levels 3 and 4.
A cantilevered area was built in RMD’s yard for Fairbrother to inspect
Fairbrother are very happy with the solutions RMD Hobart has provided. To find the best solutions and configurations RMD conducted extensive pre-project commencement consultation with them to ensure RMD were meeting their requirements. RMD have done numerous re-designs to achieve the most suitable layout to meet Fairbrother’s and their client’s requirements in regards to concrete finish. RMD also erected an example of the cantilevered area in RMD’s yard for Fairbrother to inspect and get some hands on experience.
